Bill C-11 is gong through committee now, in case you didn’t see it below. While I very briefly touched the topic and called for action, complete with email addresses of the committee, let me put in plain graphical detail what this bill means to you.

Let me expand on this a bit. As you see, all our your electronic textbooks that you paid how much for? For your class at Laurier Brantford for example? You would have to destroy it under this new bill. As if education isn’t enough already.
While you are studying for your exams you like to listen to music right? Under this new law, playing a youtube video could become no longer available in Canada. In fact, Googling Nicki Minaj, or Skrillex, or Deadmau5 and specific songs could be considered illegal under Bill C-11, cause fat cats like CIMA (who work as lapdogs for U.S. interests like RIAA) think you are a thief.
By the way, YouTube and Google won’t go away. They will just block all Canadian IPs. Look, Comedy Central does it now when you search South Park clips. Try searching for the video for Benni Benassi’s “Who’s Your Daddy?” Again, you will hit blocks based on your country on many sites. Remember the “Day of action against SOPA?” Picture that; except for Canadians, it will be forever. The chilling effect this bill will have on your life, and your internet life, is way more than the “Music Associations,” and the “Movie Associations” would have you believe.
Do not allow Canada to go the way of China, Saudi Arabia, and Cuba. You are grown up and should be able to make choices when you are on the internet. We all agree! That guy selling knock off DVDs and CDs at the Flea Market? He needs to be dealt with. The guy on the native reserve pushing features not even yet released for $5? Jail time. But checking out the latest Skrillex remix, or Rihanna collaboration, should not get you into a lawsuit or jail time.
