Vote for Brantford’s Coolest Station

Some people may have noticed we have gotten listed (relisted?) on several music sites in the past week. I’ve been making the effort to make sure people around the world know Brantford’s only hit music station is Generation Zel! Radio.

And it’s paid off. We’ve been listed on two top World Radio sites in Germany, which you should vote for here:

Vote Generation Zel! Radio for Top 150
Webradio Voting

Also, we’ve been listed on a Spanish Radio Site which you can vote for here: Generation Zel! Radio on Raddios

Anyway you can, it’s good to support a station that actually reflects the culture of the city under 50. Thank yuo for making us Brantford’s Coolest station.

Susan Beattie will not be pushed by ETFO.

Richmond Hill teacher Susan Beattie will not let her union “illegally dictate” whether she can volunteer for extra ciriculars any longer. Below is her letter.

Open letter to David Clegg, ETFO-YR President:

Here are my reflections following the Feb. 26 union meeting and your March 1 conversation with Matt Galloway on the Metro Morning radio show. You suggest the Ontario Secondary School Teachers Federation decision to lift the advisory on voluntary activities was “politically motivated”. Is the Elementary Teachers Federation of Ontario’s decision to maintain the advisory not politically motivated?

You explain ETFO’s decision by suggesting the union wants to bargain an acceptable deal for the next school year. But if the contract were re-opened, would ETFO propose an increase in class sizes to meet the budget requirements?

You hope to defeat the Liberals in the next election. But what will you do if we find ourselves with a Conservative government under Tim Hudak? These are concerns for many teachers.

Last fall you said “[teachers) want to know leadership is leading them”. Now you claim ETFO’s decision is not being “directed by union bosses”, but is the “grassroots” consensus of “well-educated” teachers.

If anyone thinks that the decisions of ETFO members are not driven by union leaders, they are mistaken. In fact, you are actively working to create a group of stewards who will obey instructions without question, and who will in turn demand compliance from their colleagues. Stewards who do not conform are asked to step down, as I did.

I have learned from experience that raising concerns about the actions of our union executive is greeted with hostility and disrespect.

You claim that teachers want their “voices heard”, but sadly, the only voices that are welcomed in our organization are the ones that concur with the leadership.

Toronto Star’s Martin Cohn (March 3) wrote, “Public school teachers have allowed their union to bamboozle (if not bully) them into … a withdrawal of services during the school day.” He referred to “despair within the labour movement over ETFO’s self-righteous, self-defeating tactics”.

I’ve had enough. You cannot compel me or any other member to withdraw from voluntary activities. I will attend monthly staff meetings. I will run my choir. I will plan field trips. I will attend meetings outside the instructional day, if I so choose. And I will not allow you or other executive officers to diminish or dismiss me.

You have spent most of your career in the union. I am deeply concerned that, along the way, you have forgotten that teachers do not work for you — you work for us!

Brantford Mayor Chris Friel – Don’t Call Him A Liberal

Apparently, calling Chris Friel out for appearing to stump for the Liberals gets you a seat in the twitter penalty box, I have learned today.

Through a simple retweet of a link and calling him a “Liberal,” Chris Friel’s thin skin was apparently penetrated enough to warrant this:

Chris Friel, Blocked, Twitter, RichieRoby, Angry Twitter

A Block from Twitter.

Upon talking to others who live in this city, I mean, after all he is the Mayor of Brantford, not just a simple citizen, this is a typical response to those who do not agree with him. Here is another account that he blocked recently, yet still references in tweets:

Chris Friel, Block, Twitter, citizens, Mayor, Brantford

By the way, once you have blocked a user, they cannot see you tweeting to them, Mr. Mayor.

Furthermore, upon looking through the mayor’s twitter account, I see a number of terse conversations he has on a regular basis, with citizens and boards alike.

Chris Friel, Twitter, Angry, Downtown Brantford, Mayor

Chris Friel clearly doesn’t like dissenting opinions, or challenges. But wait didn’t he invite that not earlier in the year, with a convo he had with me?

Chris Friel, Questioned, mayor, Brantford

Speaking of earlier conversations, I remember sharing a laugh with the mayor about clementines recently… very cordial.

Chris Friel, Mayor, Brantford, Twitter, Cordial

So why the thin-skinnedness, Mr Mayor? Why are you so upset about chat on twitter, that you would block a fellow citizen for questioning a decision? Or retweeting a link? Or calling you a Liberal?

By the way, Chris, didn’t you run for the 2004 Liberal nomination for the Brant riding, therefore making my assertion that you are a Liberal very on the mark? And what about this retweet?

Chris Friel, Liberal, Kevin O Leary, CBC, Left wing,

Look, Chris. You can block whoever you want. It’s your twitter account that you are “claiming” to be representing the whole city of Brantford. But clearly, you are not. You are representing only those who will say yes, and those who will kowtow to you. Which is a shame, but not surprising. That’s very typical of a Liberal.

Unlike yourself (as represented by twitter*), I will not block or run away from criticism, but rather embrace it. I can learn from those I disagree with, even more than those I agree with.

Chris Friel, Brantford, Mayor, Come at me Bro, Liberal, Blocking, Twitter, Shame

UPDATE 7:45pm – Chris Friel has dumped his twitter account, but not before dropping one more status:

Chris Friel, Mayor, brantford, tweet

The irony in that last tweet is astounding.

Sicko steals Vets Sign from Door

Things like this sicken me. Upon doing some work in the Wellington – Darling apartment complex today, I came across this sign on a door:

image

So this gentleman, who fought for this country, had his sign ripped down by some callous individual who clearly has no respect for vetrans, no respect for Canada, and no respect for themselves.

I take this very personally. While I may not have fought for our country, I love, revere, and respect those who do. Our troops died so that we could express ourselves. So we could have freedom, so that we could debate one another. Make money. Live a great life.

To see that someone has no respect for that, shows that they don’t even have respect for themselves, and that’s shameful. I feel sorry for this person.

So here’s the call out. If you know who did this, comment in the thread, or pm me personally on twitter @RichieRoby. In the meantime, let’s have some respect for those who fought that we could be free.

Parking Lots Lead to Accidental Conversations

So, for the second week in a row, someone has hit me in a parking lot. Angie and I discuss.

Roby: Have you ever noticed that all the damage that has happened to my car has been only on my side? You’re fine, you’re safe, but not me!

Angie: It must be because I’m Angelic :) I have wings!

Roby: Yeah well so do Maxi pads, okay?

Angie: OMG LOL!!

Bikini Model Arrested For Running Drug Ring

Famed bikini model Simone Farrow (aka Simone Starr) has been arrested and charged with running a global drug ring. She’d been on the run, branded an international fugitive, for the last month.

Simone Farrow aka Simone Starr

Farrow, who did numerous ads for the Ed Hardy line, was voted one of FHM magazine’s “sexiest women in the world” and was a Penthouse Pet. She was found hiding out in a cheap motel on Australia’s Queensland’s Gold Coast.

Police allege she set up a fake company, and made shipments of drugs — hiding them inside bath products — back to her native Australia using FedEx and the postal service.
