The Ministry of Education has given the Grand Erie District School Board the green light on the renovations for Delhi District Secondary School. The province will kick in 1.7 million dollars for demolition and rebuilding parts of the school. Board Chair Bill Johnston says they’re looking forward to moving ahead and that everything is on schedule for work to begin this summer.
DDSS is looking for help to clean up their back playing field. After the football season and regular wear, the back playing field is in poor condition. DDSS principal Shayne Mann suggests rolling, aerating, and seeding is needed. Volunteers that have the time and equipment are needed to help with this project. At tonight’s Grand Erie District School board meeting, the future of Delhi District Secondary School is under review. A $1.6 million grant from the province is being used to demo of the oldest part of the school and construct a new library and multi-purpose room. Up for debate is how large should be after renovations are complete as enrollment trends at DDSS are scheduled to drop below 400 in coming years. Delhi’s capacity currently sits around 800 and the renovations would cut that down to 546, making the high school smaller and more cost efficient. Some trustees are asking if the school would still be too large.
