Dr. Eric Hoskins – Snubbing Norfolk?
September 10th, 2008 by Roby received 4 Comments »Listen, I live in rural Norfolk County, Ontario. I’m not impressed by credentials, wowed by great political endorsements, or letters in front of a name. With that in mind, I have to say, I’m not impressed with the pre-campaign and early campaign material put out by Dr. Eric Hoskins. What am I not impressed about? The fact that i have to put a Dr. in front, for one. The fact that the early ads in the Lake Shore Shopper had him built up as if he was the next great messiah, and he’s coming home to be our M.P. Well that’s just great.
Now don’t get me wrong – I expect my representative to be a good and decent person. I expect them to have knowledge, and I expect them to have some wisdom as well. I can appreciate that he is travelled, and has done more than lived in Norfolk his whole life so he can have some perspective.
What I don’t like is the condescension. You don’t need to flaunt your stuff to me. You don’t need to give me a leaflet that says “other past influential people like me” (like the mail leaflet I got this week, citing old mayors like Roger Vermuelen and the like)… you need to show me you’re willing to be a humble servant of the people, Dr. Eric Hoskins. Don’t overstate your abilities, and tell me what you are going to do for my area.
I don’t care what people endorsed you, I care what you are going to do for me and us as an electoral district. Humble in service trumps world credentials every time.
I’ve noticed Dr. Eric Hoskins has taken the Dr. off his newest website, and that’s a start. But I will think you are looking down at my county and our people when you flaunt the “Dr.” on every road sign.

I’m glad there are others out there with the same opinion. Eric Hoskins is now running for nomination in St. Paul’s Riding in Toronto. I’ve met him twice now in the past week and I agree with you 100% on the condescending attitude he puts forth. Speaking with him I twice got the feeling that internally he was thinking “don’t you know who I am? You really should.” I firmly believe that Eric Hoskins is all about Eric Hoskins. Obviously that makes for a pretty poor politician when one is hoping to be a representation of the population.
You get what you VOTE for ! I think Dr. Eric needs to keep practicing medicine and leave the POLITICS to others more qualified.
[...] of the Community!I noticed this week a big jump in the comments on my post from before, about how Dr. Eric Hoskins would snub Norfolk if elected MP. Sure enough, he ran to Dalton Mc Chicken, for a seat in the riding of St. [...]
I know Eric and he’s a real douche. And Mathew hit the nail right on the head: Eric Hoskins is all about Eric Hoskins. Even his humanitarian work is all smoke and mirrors. If you scratch the surface there isn’t much there.
