This Election – Dare to Believe

October 13th, 2008 by Roby received 4 Comments »

Make sure that if you didn’t vote in the advance polls, that tomorrow you go out and vote. And this year, as I mentioned before I will not be voting Conservative for the first time in my life. I’m tired of being promised that my MP will deliver for me and comes back empty handed. I expect that from the liberals – thats what they do. But I demand better from the Conservatives. And I have not been impressed with the performance of Diane Finley.

How many jobs were created in Norfolk since Finley has been our MP? I mean good, quality jobs – not $8/hr WalMart jobs. How did that tobacco bailout do until only 4 weeks before an election call? How has she handled the most divisive issue in our area, the Caledonia Crisis? Has she taken the lead and made sure herself and her party has been at the forefront? Absolutely not.

Let me be clear — I’m not expecting Finley to have the magic answer to everything. But I want her to demonstrate leadership and execution on crucial issues affecting our area, not sit in the ministerial row waiting to stand for a vote when Stephen Harper says it’s okay.

So this election, I’ve decided to go with the maverick. The one who has promised to stand up for our area because he doesn’t have to tow a party line. The one who has been in our area addressing the black eye that is ruining our economy. The one who shows passion, leadership and integrity. I know how this man stands on an issue because he makes it clear. Love him or hate him, at least you know he will defend Haldimand-Norfolk. I ask you to give Gary McHale strong consideration when you go to the ballot tomorrow. Happy Thanksgiving.

Gary McHale

  1. Good luck with that. The only way Gary can win is by getting the vote out. Candidates have new tools thanks to changes to the Election Act. In order to mathematically make victory a possibility, Gary needs at least 30,000 votes.
He will need a lot of people calling during the duration of the polls.
You can bet that the Incumbent will have the required network of Scruitineers running the numbers every half hour, as is the Law.
From an outsiders point of view this areas campaign has been fraught with underhanded tactics and flagrant abuses of election norms respecting the placement of election signs.

  2. Dear Richard,

Thank you once again for your endorsement of Gary McHale. If there ever was a candidate that deserved it, it is Gary.

I do hope you’ll consider coming out to what we hope will be a victory party tonight. Check out the ‘Events Calendar’ page at GaryMcHale.ca for details. Hope to see you there!

P.S. Gary could win this election with as few as 15,000 votes, NOT the 30,000 cited by the reader above. A majority of votes is not required since Canada is a ‘first past the mark’ system.

In the last election there were 53,559 votes cast. 9,311 went to NDP, Green, Christian Heritage leaving 44,248 Liberal & Conservative voters.

This means that if the vote split reasonably evenly between Lib, Cons & Gary, he could win with as few as 15,000 votes, NOT 30,000.

It is possible that Gary could get that many votes in Haldimand alone. We shall see.
