Bitching About Twitter

Now that twitter has decided to screw with the formula, my favorite program, TweakDeck, is no long going to be functional as of May. As a result, I need a new program to fit my needs on my android. But I have specific needs.

Twitter, dead bird, TweakDeck, Modaco, Twitfucked

In fact, I search my needs and came across this beautiful post, which I will be heavily borrowing from, since we both share the same desire in a program for twitter on android.

· Columns, including:
– Timeline
– Mentions
– RTs of me
– DMs
– Any particular Twitter List of my choosing (showing RTs in the list should be an option)
– Any particular Search of my choosing (like, say my city of Brantford)

I have a lot of people following and that I follow. But I have a lot of people that I want to talk to more, so I list them. I purposely made lists for this. So if I was looking to talk to my DJs, for example, I have a list and can keep up with them.

· Individual settings for each column, relating to:

– Frequency of update (and I mean update: downloading tweets in the background whether I’m looking at the app or not, and keeping them sitting there in the app awaiting me reading them whenever I next look at that column. If I pick every 3min, I want this checked every 3min, whether at 1pm and then 1.03pm or 4am and then 4.03am, whatever else the phone is up to!)
– Notifications of new items in column (standard Android notifications, with optional sound, flashing light etc.)
· Cacheing of each column’s content*
· Columns always remember where you were in them last time you looked at them, so you can pick up where you left off
· Multiple accounts
· Media preview (in my fantasy world this includes Vine!)
· Conversation view
· Autocomplete of @ names and # tags
· Native, transparent t.co URL shortening
· Options for which picture service to upload to
· Option to enable Streaming for all Twitter content that supports it, meaning the relevant columns are kept permanently up-to-date, even in the background.

* The cacheing problem is what is touched on under the frequency of update column setting, above: I am baffled by apps which notify me something is awaiting me in a column, then make me wait for the column to load the new items when I go to it – why didn’t it just update when it noticed the new things?! Relatedly irritating: loading the tweets in a List, going elsewhere, then going back to the List and finding it loads the whole thing again. No! Cache it, show what was there last time, then add to it! Of course, my requirement for the app to be downloading tweets at the specified interval 24/7 links into this too – it’d be pointless if it did this and didn’t then cache them.

Now honestly, why twitter had to screw this up is beyond me. So why can’t they offer me what I want? If you know ANY app that is doing this, and by that I mean all of the criteria above, paid or unpaid, let me know. I tried 6 different programs last night and didn’t like any of them. In particular I want cacheing of columns and searches so I can go through them every often. I don’t want an app to tell me there is content then pull it afterward. I should be able to scroll through it.

Let me know if you got anything folks. I’ll keep you updated. Twitter, you fucked up large by the way. You got until May to fix it.

Sicko steals Vets Sign from Door

Things like this sicken me. Upon doing some work in the Wellington – Darling apartment complex today, I came across this sign on a door:

image

So this gentleman, who fought for this country, had his sign ripped down by some callous individual who clearly has no respect for vetrans, no respect for Canada, and no respect for themselves.

I take this very personally. While I may not have fought for our country, I love, revere, and respect those who do. Our troops died so that we could express ourselves. So we could have freedom, so that we could debate one another. Make money. Live a great life.

To see that someone has no respect for that, shows that they don’t even have respect for themselves, and that’s shameful. I feel sorry for this person.

So here’s the call out. If you know who did this, comment in the thread, or pm me personally on twitter @RichieRoby. In the meantime, let’s have some respect for those who fought that we could be free.

Dalton McChicken Resigns

Wow, didn’t expect that. I guess he can’t handle the $700 million Hydro scandal, or the teacher’s union pressure, or the E-Health scandal, or his Green Energy scandal. Won’t miss ya, Dalton McGuinty. Who will run the LIEbral ship?

How Brantford turns an Opportunity into a Boondoggle

It’s absolutely ridiculous that all Mayor Chris Friel can say is “poor Brantford might get it’s name muddied” cause of Hockeyfest. You think? Since the mayor withdrew support of Hockeyfest for 2012, he should have at least given moral support and set some expectations regarding security. Maybe he should have had someone from Brantford Police and Brantford Fire liasing with the organisers of Hockeyfest? Maybe months, if not weeks from the event?

Instead we get ass covering and “it wasn’t me, it was them” blame game. Good on you guys. So now over 30,000 people from all over Ontario and the US may not be able to enjoy acts like Creed, The Trews, Weezer, Mariana’s Trench, and Down with Webster among others.

Shame not only on organisers, but on Chris Friel, shame on Brantford Police, shame on council, and shame on the Grand River Conservation Authority. You should have helped not turn this into the giant boondoggle it is going to be. Not exactly Brantastic.

Rioting + Facebooking = Fail

This guy deserves the Dumbest Rioter of the Year award. Did he not learn ANYTHING from the Vancouver riots? lolol

Kony 2012 Founder Caught Drunk and Masturbating

The star and director of the viral YouTube video Kony 2012 was suffering from severe malnutrition and dehydration when he was arrested Thursday night for allegedly being drunk and masturbating in public, his charity says.

Jason Russell Invisible Children

Jason Russell, 33, was detained in Pacific Beach, Calif., at 11:30 a.m. for being drunk, publicly masturbating and vandalizing cars. Video Goodness below:

Russell’s Invisible Children, which calls for the arrest of Joseph Kony, the fugitive rebel leader of a Ugandan militia group known for using child soldiers, has quickly become a media sensation, netting more than 79 million views since it was posted on March 5. The video has also faced a huge amount of backlash from Ugandans and African policy experts for oversimplifying a complex issue, leaving Africans out of the debate and for calling a U.S. military invention that could cost civilian lives.

Lindsay Lohan’s Playboy Pics Are Out…

…. And nobody cares. Here’s the link though.

Seriously, Lindsay Gaga is looking so photoshopped that for all we know, there could have originally been a man in that picture. I’m guessing the million dollars was for the cost of fixing the pics in the cutting room or airbrushing. Remember when she looked pretty in the “Mean Girls” days? You know, before the drugs and the lesbian-ness, and the general rinsing out LA seems to give the more naive girls? Yeah. Anyways enjoy the full show while the pics are up. Take a bag with you.

Timothy McPhee Back On Brantford Police Payroll

Despite being fired in November for insubordination and discreditable conduct, Timothy McPhee, the former Brantford cop who is facing allegations of possessing child porn, is back on the payroll. Thanks to the Police Services Act, Tim McPhee enjoys his salary despite being suspended from duty.

Timothy McPhee is appealing the decision made by hearing officer Neale Tweedy on October 28, which gave McPhee seven days to either resign or be fired. A week later, McPhee was fired. McPhee, not disputing the facts of the case, is only disputing the penalty to the Ontario Police Commission. McPhee feels like he should only be demoted or otherwise penalized less for inappropriately using the confidential police information database to look up several individuals, including the husband of a woman he was having an affair with, as well as leaving an auxiliary officer in a patrol car alone while he had an affair with another woman.

Bernard Cummins, McPhee’s lawyer, must file materials pertaining to the appeal within 30 days of receiving transcripts of the disciplinary hearing. After that, a hearing date will be set. The Timothy McPhee drama continues, at Brantford taxpayer’s expense.

Sickos Topple 104 headstones at Mount Hope Cemetery

Some vandals late Saturday night and Sunday morning thought it would be a great idea to topple 104 headstones at Brantford’s Mount Hope Cemetery, located at the corner of Charring Cross and West streets. The damage from this great idea is estimated to be around $20,000.

Mount Hope Cemetery, toppled headstones, vandals, Charring Cross, West Street, Brantford

Anyone with information is asked to contact police at 519-756-7050, or Crime Stoppers at 519-750-8477. This group of idiots with no respect for the dead, their families, or the law need to be apprehended.

By the way, Brantford ward 1 city councillor Jan VanderStelt needs to be commended for not only trying (and for more than a dozen stones, successfully) setting the stones back in place, But for coming to the scene to view the damage and comfort those who saw it first hand. Excellent job in representing the city, Mr. VanderStelt.
